30TH APRIL 1945. HITLER COMMITTED SUICIDE.
7TH MAY 1945. GERMANY SURRENDED
8TH MAY. V.E. DAY CELEBRATED

5TH JULY 1945 ELECTION HELD.
LABOUR PARTY SWEPT TO POWER
6TH AUGUST 1945. ATOMIC BOMB DROPPED ON HIROSHIMA
9th AUGUST 1945 ATOMIC BOMB DROPPED ON NAGASAKI
14TH AUGUST 1945. JAPANESE SURRENDER
16TH AUGUST 1945. V.J. DAY CELEBRATED
SEPT 9TH 1945 ERIC FLEW BACK TO THE U.K. IN A LANCASTER BOMBER

THE SUN COMES OUT AGAIN
AT LEAST UNTIL THE COST OF THE WAR IS COUNTED.

Eric like so many others remained in the army until 1946
although he did return to Britain in late 1945.

There are no more letters after his return

Rationing continued despite the peace.

Goods were still short in the shops.

Not until the 1950's did the country really start to recover.

The cold war replaced the 'hot' war.

The threat of Atomic bombs became a reality.

We entered the new millenium over 55 years later with wars still happening,
atrocities still taking place and countries behaving like spoilt children.

Faire Brothers factory is still standing but unused.
The Odeon Cinema next door is closed and boarded up

Olive and Eric have now passed on. The house they lived in for almost 50 years has been sold.

The letters and photographs in these pages are all that remain.

I present them as a tribute to all who experienced the second World war in whatever country, wearing whatever uniform, Perhaps one day we will all come to our senses.
